Education
Programs and Conferences
AWS education programs include international, national, and local
conferences, seminars, and individual corporate programs. Subjects
range from welding basics to the most recent advances in technology.
AWS offers the award-winning S.E.N.S.E. program, Schools Excelling
through National Skills Education, to all qualified US welding
educational groups.
AWS
Certification
AWS’ Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) program has been
in effect for over 25 years and, to date, over 47,000 inspectors
have been certified. CWIs help to ensure the highest quality of
welding. In 1989, the AWS Certified Welder program was launched
to certify the qualifications of welders nationwide. The testing
facilities used in the qualification process are AWS accredited.
AWS also develops customized welder certification programs for
other organizations and private companies. Welding instructors
can earn an important credential through the AWS Certified Welding
Educator program, established in 1991. AWS offers the only nationally
and internationally recognized portable certification for nondestructive
testing professionals. AWS maintains the National Registry of
all certified or accredited professionals and entities related
to welding. AWS programs include the Senior Certified Welding
Inspector and Certified Welding Engineer. New certification programs
currently in development are the Certification for Radiographic
Interpreters, Certification of Automated Process Operators and
Technicians, Certified Welding Supervisors, and Certified Steel
Structure Inspector programs. All AWS certified personnel receive
Inspection Trends as an AWS member benefit.
AWS
Foundation
Founded in 1989 to support research and education in welding and
related technologies, the AWS Foundation is committed to annually
awarding more than $300,000 in undergraduate scholarships and
graduate research fellowships. In addition, the Foundation hosts
other programs, such as the “Engineering Your Future” instructors guide, a student loan program, and career promotional
videos.
